Toby is a 1.5-year-old Cockerpoo looking for a calm, experienced home that can help him feel safe and understood. We know his breed type is incredibly popular and appealing – but it’s important to be honest about who Toby really is and what he needs to thrive.

Like many dogs from poor or indiscriminate breeding backgrounds, Toby is a sensitive, anxious and highly-strung boy who finds the world overwhelming at times. He isn’t a “low-maintenance” doodle – he’s a complex little dog who needs patient, knowledgeable handling and a very steady environment.

About Toby:

Toby is sweet-natured with people and seeks interaction, but he can feel conflicted about physical touch and over-handling. He doesn’t show this in obvious ways such as hiding or avoiding – instead, he becomes jumpy, excessively licky and erratic. This is often mistaken for excitement, when in reality Toby is communicating stress and uncertainty.

He needs an adopter who understands dog behaviour, will recognise his subtle cues and advocate for his comfort rather than pushing him beyond what he can cope with.

The home Toby needs

🏡 Quiet, adult-only household

👤 1–2 consistent people (minimal visitors and comings/goings)

🧠 Experienced with anxious or sensitive dogs

🤝 Willing to work alongside a qualified behaviourist

⏳ Able to build alone-time gradually and at Toby’s pace

Toby can struggle with being left alone and will need careful, structured support to develop confidence and security before any absences are introduced. In high-stress situations (such as being left too soon or feeling over-handled), he has been known to urinate — this is anxiety-related and will need gentle, thoughtful management in a new home.

Why Toby is special:

With the right person, Toby has so much to give. He is affectionate, engaging and deeply bonded to his people — he simply needs someone who sees past the “cute cockerpoo” label and understands the sensitive dog underneath.

We are looking for a committed adopter who will give Toby the patience, calm and advocacy he has always needed, so he can finally relax and grow in confidence.

If you have experience with anxious dogs and are ready to support Toby on his journey, we’d love to hear from you.
