Wallace came in to our centre alongside his brother Gromit – both boys were found living in unsuitable conditions, alongside many other animals, and arrived underweight, dirty, and slightly nervous of the new environment and people. Despite their worries and previous experience, they have already started forming close bonds with their handlers. Their delightful nature is apparent and we have no doubt that with a little extra time and TLC, they can become the loving gentle giants we know they can be.
Wallace (& Gromit) will be best suited to adopters who have either Great Dane or Large breed experience (as they are expected to become rather huge in size), who are committed to helping them regain their health and confidence, and prepared for potential puppy behaviours as they settle in.
At this stage, we believe that Wallace would be best suited to a home with no young children, as he’s a big bouncy boy and will need a little work on his manners. He has a slightly more confident persona than his brother Gromit, and is quite quick to make new friends with people, although, both pups will bark if feeling unsure. Wallace can be tentative, but may be able to live with another well socialised and friendly dog after gentle introductions. We are not yet sure of their reaction to livestock or smaller animals.
As Wallace will need someone around to help him settle and continue his basic training, it would be ideal for his new family to be able to spend lots of time at home with him. He will need to be gradually built up to being left for short periods, through positive reinforcement training, which will help him remain calm and settled when he reaches adulthood.
Considerations for applicants: Adding a giant-breed dog to your family can come with some unique challenges due to their size. Please consider those mentioned below before applying:
Adoption Pack: An adoption donation of £600 will help us to provide the following:
Initial flea and worming treatments, health checks, Microchip (& registry), vaccinations, future neutering (or a voucher towards the cost), One Months Free PetPlan insurance, a weeks worth of their current diet, and a £50 voucher towards some essential items bought within our adoption shop.
As both Wallace & Gromit are too young to be neutered, we will look to be in touch once they reach the correct age to arrange for this procedure to take place at the centre.
If you’re ready to put your all into giving these gentle giants the second chance they deserve, we’d love to hear from you!
Please note – Wallace will require his adopters to visit him on multiple occasions (2-3 times), before he is ready to go home, so we ask you are happy with journeys to GL2 7AS
