Meet Reef – The resilient, ridiculously loveable Tripod Pup!

You may remember the adorable Shar Pei x Shepherd litter from a few weeks back – well, allow us to reintroduce one of their bravest members: Reef!

Reef has already been on quite the journey in his short 4 months of life. Born with a large hernia and a deformed front leg, this sweet boy has spent his early days in a loving and dedicated foster home while we raised the funds and waited for him to grow strong enough for surgery. Now, Reef has come through hernia repair and front leg amputation surgery like an absolute champ, and is embracing life as a proud tripod pup.

Reef is a happy-go-lucky little goofball with a bright spirit and the sweetest face you can’t help but smile at. He’s the kind of dog who just goes with the flow, adapts well to new routines, and will happily entertain himself with his toys or bring you in for a game. He’s also a sweet and affectionate companion, currently enjoying a more relaxed lifestyle while healing – but has the potential to turn into an energetic, outdoorsy boy as he gains confidence and strength.

Reef loves to explore the world! As a tiny pup, he went on adventures in a sling, backpack, and even a pushchair, so he could take everything in while resting. He still enjoys short walks and plenty of downtime, but as he grows stronger, his stamina and activity levels will increase. He’s still learning how to use his body, so any outings will need to be slower paced, but he’s already a natural explorer at heart.

Mobility & Care Needs

While Reef is adjusting wonderfully to his new body and will benefit from a family who can support him through this important growing stage. He’ll need:

  • Continued physiotherapy to help build strength in his remaining front leg

  • Potential hydrotherapy sessions as he matures

  • Short, gentle walks and regular rest to avoid overexertion

Tripod dogs live full, happy lives, but their needs are a little different – maintaining a healthy weight and building strong supportive muscles are key to preventing strain or injury.

Reef has overcome a lot, and he deserves a forever home where he’ll be celebrated, supported, and loved every step of the way. If you think you might be his person, we’d love to hear from you.
