Max, also known as Maximus, is a 1-year-old goofy GSD, who has the looks along with an enormous personality to match.

He’s a firm favourite with all the staff here at CDCH because of his friendly and positive approach to life. Max adores people and greets everyone new as if he’s known them for years. His excitable and playful nature is infectious as he’ll soon get you involved in a good game of tug-of-war!

He would benefit from a family who have had experience with the breed or similar large breed dogs, so they have a better understanding of his breed traits and characteristics. He could potentially live with teenage children so long as they were savvy with large excitable dogs as he sometimes doesn’t know his size!

Max has been eager to learn new skills like loose lead walking and basic training. He’s motivated by food and toys which makes training that little bit easier! His new family will need to be keen to take him to 121 dog training sessions to build on his basic training and manners. This is also a great way to keep his working mind busy!

He has shown some anxieties towards other dogs resulting in him being reactive towards them when they’re in view. Due to this he will need to go to a home that is rural or semi-rural with a low population of dogs to avoid constant stress. Max thrives when he’s on a quiet/calm countryside walk where he can take in all the sights, sounds and smells of the fields. He has been used to being walked on a longline here at the centre which provides him with the opportunity to run and explore but under control.

Please describe the experience you have had (if any) of handling dog reactivity.

As Max is still very young, he has a lot to learn and training can be implemented to improve his negative feelings towards other dogs, to hopefully a more positive one! He just needs someone who has the time and patience to commit to his training.

If you think you could provide Max with the loving and affectionate home he’s dreaming of, then please fill out a perfect match form.
