Introducing Meatball!
Meatball came into our care after some unfortunate disagreements with an unneutered male in his previous home, which sadly led to injury and left him feeling quite defensive.
Thankfully, with plenty of TLC and a gentle, patient approach from his foster carer, Meatball has made great progress and is now ready to find a loving forever home – ideally with a calm, friendly piggy companion he can bond with and feel safe alongside.
Meatball is only around 7 months old, but as he wasn’t able to to fit in in his previous home, it’s not surprising, that he’s taken a little time to come out of his shell. He can still be a bit nervous and cautious with handling, often avoiding being picked up when possible. That said, he’s made great progress in his foster home and is now very happy and relaxed in his enclosure – especially at dinner time, when he gets particularly excited! His fosterer has seen steady improvements since day one and has built a strong bond with him through hand-feeding his favourite treats (pea flakes and baby sweetcorn are top of the list!). Despite his initial shyness, we have started to see glimpses of his cute personality, and have no doubt that he will become a wonderful little chap in the right home.
He is ideally looking for calm and understanding adopter(s), who will be happy to allow him time to grow in confidence and build trust in their company – this can be done with a gentle approach and minimal handling, instead, spending time with him daily – offering dandelion leaves & parsley will soon have him venturing out to meet you. He would be best suited to a home with no young children to worry him and would benefit from being housed indoors (although we are sure he would love to spend time in the grass in the warmer months)!
We are aware that Meatball has previously lived with a guinea pig, however, we are unsure of how he will react to being reintroduced, therefore, a home with someone who is confident with carrying out the initial bonding process would be beneficial. As he is neutered, he can live with either a friendly female or male piggy, who are not too dominant.
If you think that you could help Meatball to feel safe, and have a lonely guinea pig you think would be a good match, then complete a perfect match form below:
Please note – the minimum cage size for two guinea pigs should be 120cm x 60cm x 45cm, however, we always advise you provide them with as much space as possible.
