Meet the gorgeous Tia, who we’ve been told is a Shitzu X Collie mix!
She may be 9 years old, but she’s incredibly young at heart; enjoying play time with her toys (particularly her ball), as well as training sessions to stimulate her intelligent mind! Tia has proven to be a keen learner and knows many basic commands already, mastering sit, down, wait, leave, paw, and is currently working on drop – she’s got a great attention span when learning and is eager to please, especially when there is a super tasty treat as a reward!
Tia was a little nervous of her new surroundings on arrival at the centre and took a few days to feel safe around all the new faces, however, now comfortable, she has really started to come out of her shell and show us her cheeky personality and sweet nature and loves saying hello to anyone who visits. Any adopters will need to be willing to allow Tia time to feel comfortable at her own pace, but once settled, she will make a wonderful companion. As grooming will be a frequent need for Tia due to her breed, once settled, her new owner(s) will need to be committed to ensuring desensitisation is put in place, building her confidence around touch and equipment to make this interaction stress free.
As well as frequent walks and play dates with her handlers, Tia has loved to accompany them for some chill time, joining them on the occasional overnight, showing she is calm and relaxed in a home setting and not opposed to a good snooze on the sofa! She has been super on her walks and would enjoy accompanying her owner(s) wherever they wish to go, politely greeting other dogs in a friendly manner. Despite this, she doesn’t want anything from her fellow canines, so would benefit from being the only dog in the home.
Unfortunately, Tia has displayed really unsettled behaviour around children, showing she is anxious in their company, so would prefer a quieter life in an adult only home.
If you feel you could offer Tia the quiet and reassuring environment she is searching for, but still provide her with lots of fun and games, then please fill out a perfect match form and let us know.
