Meet Wallaby, the handsome guinea pig looking for a new female companion (or two)!
Wallaby arrived in our care with Wombat (also soon available), after they were born into a home with lots of other animals, who weren’t all getting on. Sadly, it was soon clear that both boys hadn’t been truly bonded, so after a few misunderstandings, we felt they would be better off looking for individual homes, where they can slowly and gradually get to know new guinea friends of their own.
Due to missing out on the one-to-one handling and socialisation needed as a young piggy, Wallaby can be a little nervous, and prefers to approach on his own terms and keep all four paws on the floor, but is gaining in confidence every day in his foster home. With this in mind, Wallaby would be better suited to a home with and understanding family who are prepared to take a hands-off approach initially, and willing to give him time to build confidence.
Despite this, Wallaby is full of beans, and loves to popcorn around his cage, and is especially excited around meal times. Food is definitely the way to his heart! He will even allow you to give him little chin scratches once he has settled in!
We think that Wallaby would love the company of another friendly piggy – as we have no true history of his previous bonding experience, his adopters should be confident in carrying out this process with advice from CDCH, and will need to allow extra space while this takes place.
Shared accommodation for two happy guinea pigs should offer at least 120cm x 60cm floor space.
