Watson is a very handsome young Beagle X, who has had a very sheltered start to his life, after spending his first year never leaving his home to experience the joys of a walk. As you can imagine, having only known one environment and having  minimal experience with the world around him, Watson has found the transition in to the centre quite overwhelming and it has taken some time to see him come out of his shell.

The team have made every effort to make Watson feel comfortable, taking the gentle approach to making friendships, and we are pleased to say that with time and patience, we have started to see great development in his character. Watson is definitely a cheeky pup hiding in a timid body, as once he gets to know you, his silly and goofy nature comes to life, where he will often enjoys chasing his handlers around playfully and showing off his cute zoomies. He is a big foodie too, which is no surprise being a Beagle, so will often use his nose to seek out tasty treats – this makes him top dog when it comes to completing food puzzles, as he is a clever boy and likes to keep his brain busy!

Ideal Home:

Due to Watson’s timid nature and need to build confidence, we are looking for some committed and supportive adopters who are happy to give him the time and space he requires in the initial stages. Watson is currently very nervous of strangers, so will require multiple visits to meet him and built a bond, therefore, he would benefit most from a quiet and calm home environment, where he can become accustomed to a familiar routine and where visitors are minimal, as this would worry him, and he may alarm bark if scared. For rehoming purposes, a 2 person household would be best suited to allow for easier bonding during the viewing stages).

Ideally his family would be around for a good part of the day, to help settle him in, as he likes to keep his brain busy, and has shown signs of separation anxiety when left, so will need support in the initial few months, before this is introduced gradually.

Homes with gentle and understanding children 15 years + will be considered. Although Watson has previously lived with other dogs, his socialisation with new dogs has been minimal and requires some work, so he would be best suited as the only dog at this time.

Considerations:

Watson is not yet neutered, which is a decision made on veterinary advise due to his nervous nature – CDCH will be looking to arrange this for a later date, once he is fully settled in to his new home and will be included as part of his adoption fee and agreement. Adopters should be willing to return to the centre for this to be carried out (if you live over 1.5hrs travel distance from the centre, this will need to be carried out by a local vet, where a voucher will be provided towards to the cost).

Distance to the centre – due to Watson’s fear of strangers, anyone hoping to adopt him will need to be prepared for multiple visits to the centre in the initial stages to allow him to build trust – his first viewing will need to be hands off as he will be anxious (we estimate up to 5 visits may be required).

Watson’s needs:

• A calm home environment (a secure and private garden would be beneficial).
• Children 15 years and above who can be calm and understanding of his nervous nature.
• No existing dogs or cats at this time (potential to build up in future).
• Will require multiple visits to the centre prior to adoption
• Access to quiet countryside walks
• Time and patience from adopters to allow for settling and to develop trust
• Further behavioural support –  allowing gradual introductions to new environments/ people/other dogs and confidence building
