Rescue is a crucial lifeline for animals in need, offering them a second chance at life and a safe place to thrive. An animal’s journey in rescue can start with uncertainty and fear, but with the right care, love, and attention from CDCH they transform into happy and healthy companions.
You’re workplace can be a vital part of their journey, giving them the future they deserve.
The Rescue
Spud was just 4 months old when he arrived at the Cotswolds Dogs and Cats Home. He had a suspected broken leg, caused by an accident at home, and was signed over to our care due to financial difficulties.
The treatment
After thorough scans, it was confirmed that Spud had a lateral condylar fracture of the left humerus. Following detailed discussions with veterinary professionals, it became clear that, due tot eh severity of the fracture, amputation of his left forearm was the best course of action. This means that Spud will not only need to adjust to life in rescue but also learn how to navigate the world with three legs.
Road to recovery
Following the operation, Spud received 24 hour care in foster with the support of a CDCH staff member, Lily Birch. With the necessary pain relief and constant attention, he made a remarkable recovery. Spud began physiotherapy and hydrotherapy at the Renew Centre, and soon bounced back from surgery, adapting well to life as a tripod. Despite facing numerous challenges at such a young age, this brave little boy handled everything with incredible resilience.
Finding a home
At just 17 weeks old, Spud had already endured a traumatic start to life and needed a compassionate family who could continue supporting him through his treatment. He required a family with the time, patience, and dedication to provide the care he needed.
While with us Spud was an incredibly affectionate boy, always eager to give lap cuddles and face licks to everyone he met. His loving nature made it clear that he would quickly win over any new family—just as he had captured our hearts.
A new beginning
Spud has now settled into his new home with a family who absolutely adore him. Despite his amputation, he doesn’t let it slow him down. While he needs a little help getting up and down the stairs, he’s otherwise just like any other happy and healthy dog. With his cheeky personality, Spud loves mealtimes, walks through the woods, and has a blast on adventures in the park.
