Born with a severely deformed front leg and a large umbilical hernia, his road was never going to be easy.
While his shark-named siblings quickly found new homes, Reef faced a future filled with surgery, physiotherapy, and an uncertain outcome.
Thanks to the incredible kindness of our supporters, Reef underwent life-changing surgery to remove his non-functional limb and repair his hernia. With expert veterinary care, rehabilitation, and unwavering determination, this brave little pup made an astonishing recovery.
Now, we’re delighted to share the news everyone has been waiting for: Reef has been adopted, and he has a brand-new name to match his bright new life, Hades.
Hades has settled beautifully into his forever home with a loving family and his new canine companion, Hela, who also happens to be a tripod dog.
When we saw him on social media, our hearts melted, and then when we went to meet him, it was just perfect.
Hela seemed to understand that he needed space and to be gentle, and he was such a cute little cuddle bug. He is a wonderful boy, and the pair of them make us smile every day.
Hades and Hela have quickly become the best of friends. Whether it’s chasing each other around the garden, playing tug of war with toys, or collapsing into a heap for lazy playtime on the floor, the pair are inseparable.
“Hades worked out very quickly how to do the stairs, both going up and down – there’s no stopping him,” his family told us. “He just loves to follow us around the house and join in with whatever we are doing. His front leg is getting stronger by the day.”
From the little pup who once struggled to take a step, to the confident, playful dog now bounding through life with his new family, Hades is the perfect example of why we never give up.
His story has been one of courage, resilience, and the incredible impact of community support.
Thank you to everyone who donated, shared his story, and stood by him. Because of you, Hades has the happy ending he so richly deserves.
