Where Our Mission Met the High Street

The Cotswolds Dogs & Cats Home shop in Nailsworth, has been part of the much-loved Market Street community for over 30 years.

Originally based in a smaller unit along the same street, it was our very first charity shop and holds a special place in our hearts.

The wider charity began to take shape thanks to the vision and determination of Carolyn Blackburn, Chair of Trustees, who led the efforts to open their first rehoming centre in Cambridge, Gloucestershire. Her goal was to create a safe and nurturing environment that would prevent cruelty, promote kindness, and improve the lives of animals in need –A mission that continues to guide CDCH today.

CDCH believes that ‘rescuing one animal may not change the world, but for that animal, their world is changed forever’.

The Nailsworth shop welcomes many loyal customers, including visitors from neighbouring counties and even overseas.

Nailsworth has truly become a destination town, and the shop is proud to be part of its vibrant charm.

The dedicated volunteers are at the heart of everything CDCH does – many have supported the shop for years, forming close bonds with customers and helping to create the warm, friendly atmosphere it’s known for.

Whether you’re browsing, donating items, or stopping by for a chat, they’re always there to welcome you.

We’ve had our shop in Market Street for over 30 years. It was our very first charity shop, originally run by a group of incredibly passionate and committed volunteers. It’s amazing to see how it’s grown with the town, becoming such a welcoming and vibrant part of Nailsworth’s community.

We’re so grateful to everyone who supports us by donating their pre-loved goods – every item dropped off helps us change the lives of animals in need.

This shop holds real history for us – a testament to the dedication of our team members, volunteers, and the generosity of local people who’ve supported us all these years. It’s more than a shop – it’s where our mission first met the high street.
