Bella arrived at the Cotswolds Dogs and Cats Home on 14th September 2021.
This shy little girl had come from an overcrowded home, and was heavily pregnant.
The team did everything they needed to do to prepare for her puppies, knowing they could come at any moment!
A week later, Bella gave birth to 5 gorgeous puppies, with no complications.
She brought 1 girl and 4 boys into the world; Briscoe, Bertie, Bailey, Benji and Bee.
Bella has been a wonderful mum from the off, ensuring all are fed, cleaned and happy!
One of the puppies even has a heart shape in their fur as you can see in the photo!
We were desperate to find Bella and her little ones somewhere to call their own at this important stage of their lives, so we appealed for a foster home. Before too long they were safe and warm with someone who had the experience and time to care for them.
Sadly though, one of the little boys, Bailey, became unwell without warning last week.
At just 3 weeks old, he started to have seizures, and the vets could not determine the cause of these. He became weaker with each one and it was felt that it was not fair to carry out further testing on a puppy so young and vulnerable.
The extremely difficult decision was therefore made, to put this little guy to sleep at the weekend.
It is heart-breaking to give you this terrible news, but it is the sad reality that not all animals who come into our care have the happy ending we wish for them, despite our best efforts.
Bella is continuing to be a doting mother to her other 4 puppies and we pray that they will all grow up strong and healthy and find new, loving homes.
Despite being in foster, we provide all food, equipment and medical care for Bella and her babies and each will be microchipped, flea’d, wormed and neutered when they are ready.
Please will you help us to care for this little family?
