Bringing Bruton’s Dog Back to Life: A Tale of Restoration and Community Spirit

Brutons, a cherished family-run hardware business in the heart of Nailsworth, has been a staple of the community since 1856. Starting as a small ironmongery, the store has been passed down through generations of the Bruton and Burnett families. Today, Jenny and Graham continue the tradition, offering friendly, knowledgeable service with a team boasting over 100 years of combined experience. With 12,000 lines in stock and the ability to source special requests, Brutons is a trusted destination for all your hardware needs.

The store has been the home of iconic CDCH collection dogs since the 1960’s where they have become a beloved feature at Brutons.  The dogs bring delight to both staff and customers with their charming bells that ring with each donation. Many staff members fondly remember donating to the dogs as children, adding to their nostalgic appeal.

In recent years, the collection dogs began to show signs of wear and tear.

Determined to preserve this cherished tradition, Graham took them to his workshop for some much-needed repairs. With the help of a talented artist, the dogs have been lovingly restored to their former glory.

Now back in their rightful place, the collection dogs are once again ready to welcome donations, much to the delight of the community and store staff.

We're truly touched by the joy this collection dog brings to the Cirencester community. It holds such a special place in the hearts of locals, and it’s wonderful to see it not only evoke nostalgia but also support our charity and the animals we care for. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Bruton family for their longstanding support of CDCH and are thrilled to see this iconic symbols of generosity restored and celebrated.
