Our mission is to ensure that each one finds the perfect match, whether that’s a forever home or, in some exceptional cases, a working role that showcases their incredible potential.
One such story is that of Prince, a remarkable dog who has recently begun a trial with Gloucestershire Police as a prospective drugs, cash, and firearms search dog.
Prince’s journey to this exciting opportunity highlights the careful care, dedication, and expertise of the CDCH team.
When Prince first came to us, it didn’t take long for our staff to notice his keen intelligence, drive, and energy.
All traits that suggested he could thrive in a working environment. After careful assessment and collaboration with Gloucestershire Police, it became clear that Prince had the makings of a fantastic service dog.
Now, Prince is living and training alongside his handler, PC Will Picter, and his new furry colleague, PD Wilde – A General Purpose German Shepherd. Together, they’re working on the skills Prince will need to excel in his role identifying items associated with crime and criminal behaviour. His early exercises have been promising, and the Gloucestershire Police team is optimistic about his future.
Prince is showing early promise in all exercises so hopes for this lucky boy having a successful and fulfilling working life are high.
Gloucestershire Police are very grateful for the fantastic work of Cotswold Cats and Dogs Home for their great work in identifying the working potential in Prince.
At CDCH, we are committed to ensuring that every animal in our care is placed where they can truly thrive.
For many, this means finding a loving family to call their own. But for special dogs like Prince, it means finding a role where they can put their unique talents to good use. This success is made possible by the dedication of our team and our close partnerships with organisations like Gloucestershire Police.
We are thrilled to see Prince embark on this new chapter and are incredibly proud of the work he’s doing. We wish him and PC Picter the best of luck during his trial period and will be cheering him on every step of the way.
