Treat your dog this Pancake Day!

Make some dog friendly pancakes this Pancake Day - Tuesday 1st March!

Some of us love an excuse to get our beloved pups involved in our celebrations, so with Pancake Day coming up on Tuesday 1 March, we’ve provided a dog-safe pancake recipe that your furry friend will love.

While it’s true that our dogs get all the nutrients they need from a well-balanced diet of dog food, it’s still fun to make the occasional healthy recipe, and as Pancake Day is a little later this year, you have even more time to prep something delicious that they will enjoy in moderation. Just don’t expect them to give up something for lent with you too!

Prep time: 10 minutes

Cooking time: 5 minutes

Total time: 15 minutes

Makes 8 pancakes

Ingredients

  • 1 cup mashed banana
  • ⅓ cup grated, cored and peeled apple (ensure all skin is removed, and there are no pips remaining)
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup oats or wholewheat flour
  • Optional topping: 1-2 spoonfuls of dog friendly (xylitol-free) peanut butter

Instructions

  1. Add the mashed banana, grated apple and eggs to a bowl and combine until thoroughly mixed.
  2. Add the dry ingredients (oats or wholewheat flour) and mix well. You can add a little water if the batter is too dry.
  3. Heat a non-stick pan on the stove, and, once hot, pour in about 3 tbsps of the mixture into the pan.
  4. Cook for roughly 2 minutes on each side, until nice and brown.
  5. Once cooled, serve your pup a pancake either whole or cut into bitesize chunks. Or if you’re feeling extra, why not use a bone-shaped cutter to cut them into fun shapes?
  6. If your dog is a peanut butter fan, you can add a little as a tasty topping. Just make sure the peanut butter you’re using is dog friendly, and doesn’t contain xylitol.

These plain pancakes are a great dog-friendly treat this Pancake Day, but remember to only serve them in small quantities and avoid adding any extra toppings.

We’d love to see photos of your furry friends enjoying their tasty snacks! Email your photos to haley.medlock@cdch.org.uk and we will share to our Cotswolds Dogs & Cats Home Facebook page!
