Sometimes, the road to finding a forever home isn’t as simple as we’d like it to be. For some animals, the journey can take longer than expected, full of bumps and twists along the way. With the right support, patience, and understanding, a second chance is always possible.
This is the story of Yoko, a 6-year-old Jagd Terrier who, after spending nearly four years at Cotswolds Dogs & Cats Home (CDCH), has finally found his forever home. The timing could not have been more perfect.
Yoko arrived at CDCH in February 2021, full of energy, a quirky personality, and a love for adventure. Like many terriers, he had a high prey drive, a love for digging, and a deep need to engage with the world around him. Despite his best qualities, including his bravery and outgoing nature, Yoko found himself waiting for much longer than anticipated to find a family to call his own.
Though he had multiple meets with potential adopters, Yoko struggled to adjust to new people in his personal space, becoming a bit too comfortable in the shelter environment. He had formed strong bonds with the staff and volunteers at the center, but it wasn’t the life he was meant to live.
For four long years, Yoko’s journey was one of hope, resilience, and determination.
His time at the center was filled with love from the people who cared for him. The team at CDCH never gave up on him, and they always believed that the right person would eventually come along to understand and appreciate Yoko for who he was.
A dog with a spirited personality and a heart full of love.
The day he had been waiting for.
On February 14, 2025, just one day before his four-year anniversary here at CDCH, Yoko’s story took a beautiful turn.
Committed, patient, and fully understanding of his needs.
Yoko’s Adopters have taken the time to get to know him and ensure they could provide him with the kind of loving home he deserved.
Yoko’s adopters have spent a whopping 5 months getting to know Yoko and his needs.
They have visited the centre several times times per week and accommodated lots of home visits to ensure his adjustment to his new family life goes as smoothly and as stress free as possible.
This has allowed them to earn Yoko’s trust slowly and at his own pace, which is exactly what he has been waiting for!
The adoption of Yoko is not just a story of a dog finding his family, it’s also a testament to the dedication and love of the entire team at CDCH.
From the staff and volunteers to the supporters and donors, everyone played a role in making this moment possible.
It’s been a long process but it has been so rewarding getting to know and love Yoko and earn his trust!
He’s a very special boy and we feel very lucky to be giving him a home, especially after his long wait - we’re also very grateful to everyone at CDCH, especially Tash and Ebony for their time and love for him and we look forward to a Yoko filled future.
It’s the kindness and belief in second chances that made Yoko’s journey successful.
